Highest Quality Grade RC-48 Carbon

Derived from an ancient black coal deposit found only in Western Australia. The particular deposit is dated at over 250 million years old. After being extracted, the RC-48 carbon is kiln activated at 1200°C in a saturated steam atmosphere. It is this process together with the coals unique density that causes the pores in the carbon to form.

High Specification Carbon Pore Size

This filter uses virgin Australian RC412 Carbon, widely considered to be one of the superior carbons for air filtration. With its very low ash content (less than 13%), it is a virgin granulated product so it can be compacted very tightly, leaving no air spaces for organic compounds (odours) to escape.

CarboAir Carbon Filters - Europe's Premium Hydroponic Management System

The virgin carbon is activated at temperatures above 1000°C in a humid environment. Inline Fans & Revolution Silence EC Fans ~ Ultimate Hydroponic Management

In addition to the control over the temperature, the use of fans allows a control of humidity (or hygrometry). Expressed as a percentage, the quantity of water available in the air is measured with a hygrometer. In most cases, a hydroponic grow tent housing plants in vegetative phase (growth) requires the establishment of a humidifier (cold steam and already equipped with a hygrostat preferably). To maintain the necessary 50 to 70% hygrometry; 45 to 50% relative humidity is sufficient for flowering, to avoid any mould. These measurements ensure optimal gas exchange at the stoma level.

How to calculate the size Ø and the extraction rate of the fan m³/h:

The following method is well known and has been approved by many growers:

  • Exhaust required for fan capacity (m³ / h) = [Volume of active growth zone (m³) x change of air per unit of time (hours) x [Rate loss - Charcoal filter]
  • To calculate the volume, multiply the length x the width x the height.
  • In our example with two lamps of 600W, it gives 1,20mx2,40mx2x50m which gives a culture volume of 7,20m³. When you know your volume, you must multiply it by the volume of air to be renewed per hour.

NOTE: For the majority of indoor gardens without air conditioning or CO², the rule of thumb is 1 per minute. In this case, multiply the volume of culture by 60 to calculate the volume of air to be renewed per hour.

Finally, when a charcoal filter is attached to the fan, it is expected to decrease efficiency by 25%. This data is variable and depends on the age of the filter, the length and the circulating power of the ducts used between the fan and the filter and other factors. To evaluate this decrease in efficiency by 25, simply multiply by 1.25.

If we record the equation to our grow tent example this equates to:

  1. [Required air evacuation capacity (m³ / h)] = [Active growth volume area (m³) x 60] x 1.25
  2. [Required air evacuation capacity (m³ / h)] = ((1,2x2,4x2,5) x60) x 1,25

= 540 m³/h

The end result is the minimum extraction size needed.

Airflow: 540 m³/h

If the growing chamber is in a very well insulated area like a basement, then using that number should be fine. On the other hand, if the growing chamber is located in a location that is very exposed to heat and natural sunlight, such as an upstairs room or an attic, then the size of the extractor needed should be increased by approximately 25%.

By knowing the size of the room and the number of lamps that will be used, you can work on the required ventilation in m3 per hour (m³/h)

The optimal temperature for hydroponic cultivation is between 20°C and 25°C, ideally at 24°C. Through extraction/intraction and ventilation, the temperature of the grow tent is controlled to a certain extent; maintaining a good temperature is difficult in summer when the ambient heat is added to that of the propagation lighting or during winter when increasingly changeable weather affects external conditions.

In fact, there’s no guarantee that you won’t need the precious heat output from these units at times during the spring and summer too always try to maintain your grow room temperature around 24°C.

Technical Details

It is important that temperature variations do not exceed more than 10°C between day and night to compensate for any stress that plants may experience. It is advisable to connect a thermostat to the extractor and the intractor in order to automate the management of internal temperature variations within the grow room.

WARNING! Equipment generating heat must be stored outside the grow tent chamber.

To ensure electrical safety and prevent unnecessary heat transfer, any equipment that generates heat must be stored outside the growing chamber, on a shelf or on any non-flammable surface.
