Danish Irrigation Grow Trays
Automatic run-off management is a life saver for indoor horticulture, removing the time-consuming and laborious task of ensuring saturated plants don't sit in nutrient solution - something absolutely crucial for protecting against the anaerobic conditions that can lead to crop-destroying root borne pathogens.
Generally speaking, there have been two main options available to growers, either utilising single raised trays such as the Medusa Baseline or IWS AutoDrain Stand which require individual irrigation connections and limit flexibility with regards to pot sizes, numbers and configurations, or to build a large DIY drainage tray which are usually devoid of deep flow channels and the rigidity needed to ensure that all run off is evenly and effectively drained.

Grassroots Beds
The no-till / living soil revolution is well and truly here. Grassroots beds are specifically designed for living soil applications. Because standard fabric beds and pots have breathable fabric for air pruning and drainage, the sides can dry out which can pose an issue with live soil.
The drying out of soil quickly from the bottom and at the sides is generally great for hydroponic style irrigation, where you want quick drying and frequent watering. However, this quick drying at the sides creates a zone of soil that is not good at supporting soil microbial life. Here, the soil can get so dry the microbial communities go dormant or even die, and therefore cannot unlock nutrition from the soil and supply it to the plant. This zone around the edge of the pot is essentially wasted soil, however Grassroots beds ensure that it can be kept moist and allowed to flourish with microbial activity with the help of the MoistureLock Liner.
